Vectorspace AI Datasets: ABT Crypto Academy AMA (Ask Me Anything)
While ‘data’ might be the new oil, the ‘dataset’ is the refined gasoline that powers every Machine Learning (ML) and AI operation. Vectorspace AI’s algorithms generate datasets based on Natural Language Processing & Understanding (NLP/NLU). These datasets are used to boost signal, accuracy, precision, profit/loss, Sortino or Sharpe ratios in the financial markets and biosciences industries.
The following is a transcript of a recent AMA hosted by ABT Crypto Academy on Telegram with the founder of Vectorspace AI, Kasian Franks.
[11:03:52 AM]:ABT Crypto
We’re extremely privileged to be joined by Kasian Franks the CEO of Vectorspace, it’s only right we start off with a brief introduction — can you tell us what exactly Vectorspace is and how the idea came about? @DeepHedge
[11:06:14 AM]:Kasian Franks
We got our start in Life Sciences, now most refer to it as Biosciences at Genentech and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab https://www.lbl.gov
[11:06:36 AM]:Kasian Franks
in the Biosciences division: https://biosciences.lbl.gov/
[11:08:28 AM]:Kasian Franks
There we were tasked with creating a system to identify hidden relationships between genes, drugs and diseases connected to breast cancer, chromosomal radiation damage and extending human lifespan for the purpose of deep space travel.
We wrote a paper with Micheal I. Jordan, teacher of Andrew Ng, who developed the first AI for Google and China’s Baidu.
“Statistical modeling of biomedical corpora: mining the Caenorhabditis Genetic Center Bibliography for genes related to life span” — Blei DM, Franks K, Jordan MI, Mian IS. — http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1533868
“The statistical modeling of biomedical corpora could yield integrated,
coarse-to-fine views of biological phenomena that complement discoveries

We then applied what we learned to the traditional financial markets based on a paper written by Gur Huberman:
“Contagious Speculation and a Cure for Cancer: A Non-Event that Made Stock Prices Soar,”
https://www0.gsb.columbia.edu/mygsb/faculty/research/pubfiles/1555/contagious.pdf
Human genes are like stocks or cryptos.
We then developed a system that went on to make money for a few hedge funds:
Our technology is based on datasets.
Our algorithms generate datasets that power AI/ML systems and in every industry:

“For the purpose of deep space travel” Sounds like an extremely interesting but daunting task!
You’ve previously said, and I agree with the statement “machine learning and artificial intelligence are the most complicated forms of software engineering”
what made you want to target this industry?

How much is data worth?
Trillions
[11:20:40 AM]:Kasian Franks
Let me break this down for you
On the cost side, we are onboarding customers on a case by case basis as we engage in customer discovery. Our current pricing model:
Per Dataset: 100,000,000,000 available datasets
$0.99c per Data source (max 100, min 2)
$0.99c per Row type (max 1000, min 1)
$0.99c per Column type, (max 1000, min 1)
$0.99c per Context-control (max 1000, min 0)
$0.99c per Update (max: 43,200, min institutional 100, min academic 1)
To simplify, our customers pay at a minimum $0.99c per dataset per update. That ranges from $30k to $50k per month per dataset per customer.
Data is increasing at an exponential rate.
This goes for datasets too.

All industries are now set to use AI/ML.
Here’s how companies make money with our datasets:
Our datasets generate thematic baskets of traditional market equities.
[11:29:45 AM]:Kasian Franks
Thematic investing is a term everyone here should be familiar with as it’s set to transform the crypto space as it has the traditional markets. Our customers like S&P Global agree.

We’re just getting started with a handful as we engage in customer discovery and onboarding on a case by case basis. We’re focused on the most high value customers we have. CloudQuant, with 400k traditional market traders and institutions, will be talking about VXV in the coming weeks.

Can you tell us a bit more about your partnership with CloudQuant?
[11:42:24 AM]:Kasian Franks
CloudQuant is preparing to offer our datasets to their institutions and traders such as Citadel LLC
They also want to offer our thematic baskets to their retail side.
CloudQuant is just 1 company out of many that are interested in setting up deals with VXV
When VXV is acquired by an individual or institution in any industry and placed in wallet, this wallet becomes a tradable ‘wrapped asset’ for the following purposes related to billions of different datasets Vectorspace AI offers to individuals and institutions:
(in order of importance defined by revenue potential)
1. Design and generate datasets
2. Machine-to-machine transactions using VXV inside a specialized exchange for datasets where datasets are bought and sold similar to a crypto or stock exchange.
3. Access and distribution of datasets based on the VXV wallet-enabled API key used by customers to access Vectorspace AI datasets from revenue distribution partners such as S&P Global Market Intelligence, Bloomberg, Neudata, CloudQuant or Microsoft Azure.
4. On-chain data provenance, lineage, validation and governance: If you don’t know where your data came from, you’re flying blind. The VXV token tracks all changes to datasets by assigning immutable ownership to each change in the dataset.
5. Retail subscriptions: Access to thematic baskets, smart baskets for stocks and cryptos
6. VXV wallet-enable API:
A. Based on the amount and type of VXV in a wallet, access to hundreds of tiered service levels offered by the VXV dataset platform for greater accuracy, precision or profit.
B. Based on the amount and type of VXV in a wallet, access to hundreds of API parameters which enable greater accuracy, precision or profit.
7. Optionally, the VXV wallet can be enabled as a wrapped asset that can be traded on an separate exchange
We are creating a bridge between the traditional markets and the crypto markets.
VXV is what connects them.
VXV is the crypto used to design, build, distribute and transact datasets for the traditional markets.
This means if you’re in the traditional markets and you want an edge or an increase in precision, accuracy, P&L, Sortino or Sharpe ratio, you’re going to need VXV. As a traditional market player, if you’re making money with VXV datasets, you’ll also be interested in taking a long term position in VXV as a fund, prop desk or institution.

An ICO is the worst possible thing you can do. It creates sell pressure.
We come with a deep understanding of how trading vehicles work as we’ve been on most sides of the public markets including running public companies and dealing with the SEC.
The ICO is misnomer, it really means, what we call in the traditional markets, the friends and family round.
You’ll notice big players in the traditional markets do not give away all their shares before they start trading on a top tier exchange.
We are not in the business of “giving away” VXV at low price levels. We’re only interested in maximizing our holding of VXV.

This is true, I don’t believe it’s beneficial long term to sell off tokens cheap before the full potential has been realised.
Can you give us a breakdown on the tokenomics for Vectorspace and could that change? In terms of increase in supply or burning tokens to reduce it.
[12:26:22 PM]:Kasian Franks
Note: Most tokenomic models being touted by crypto companies these days are a form of retardation of a revenue model of some kind. Here’s why, “tokenmomic” models we’re originally designed with the inept thinking that all crypto was some kind of currency in form or another. This is ridiculously far from the truth. The fact is that each crypto is a trading vehicle. This is how experienced traders understand crypto and I’m talking about traders that have years in both the traditionals and crypto. These are the guys that matter as most of them have yet to trade crypto which makes them are largest addressable market in retail terms. This means we need to pay attention to big money, not the little money as we are not in it for the little money.
7. Optionally, the VXV wallet can be enabled as a wrapped asset that can be traded on an seperate exchange
A note on tokenomic models:
1. We are going to follow the spirit of US SEC regulation and securities law which means we will not be showing the public how VXV will increase in value. This will classify VXV as a security and as an investment vehicle. It will also place Vectorspace AI in a difficult position as some of our attorneys work inside the SEC. This would also be a form of ‘promotion’ of VXV as an investment vehicle.
2. We are not going to use a tokenomics model to replace or draw attention away from the more important revenue model.
3. We are not going to explicitly lay out to our competitors details of our strategy — this is not an open source company, this is for-profit company with trade secrets and customers that rely us on not laying out any details of any strategy that might weaken their position.
If a trader or investor wants to know how to value VXV without seeing explicity numbers that result in a direct price increase of VXV, they’ll have to follow the smart money in. This always happens and is a function of free market capitalism. They simply have to buy in at higher prices following the big players in, like hedge funds. This is why the big players make more money, they’re usually first.
If a trader or investor is not savvy enough to understand what happens when a billion dollar firm takes a position in your stock or crypto, there’s not much we can do to help them at this point.
Our focus is revenue followed by profit.
50% of our revenue goes to buying VXV on the open market as VXV is required to access datasets but more importantly, track data provenance, lineage and governance, hashes of hashes, on-chain.
[12:32:45 PM]:ABT Crypto

[12:33:36 PM]:Kasian Franks
You do not want “conventional” in the crypto markets, the scam risk is intolerable.
[12:34:22 PM]:ABT Crypto
From visiting the website www.vectorspace.ai we can see a Microsoft and Amazon logo on the homepage, can you explain the nature of these partnerships?
[12:37:01 PM]:Kasian Franks
MSFT, AMZN, GOOG, SPGI (S&P), SNOW, PLTR, AAPL and more compete heavily in AI/ML and the only way for them to compete and win is to offer unique and powerful datasets to new customers.
This is why all of them love what we do. This is also why we are unique, they have no other companies offering datasets like ours.
We do things they cannot do in AI/ML, they also know that.
These are trillion and multi-billion dollar publicly traded companies.

One of your most recent partnerships was with CERN, can you give us a brief explanation of the significance of this partnership?
[12:44:22 PM]:Kasian Franks
How significant is the Universe? Hint: not as much as the Multiverse.
I’ll explain…
CERN conducts experiments that generate a large number of measurements related to physical properties of Leptons.
This data is transformed and stored in a dataset.
CERN is looking for known and unknown or hidden relationships between particles. This is usually done using standard ML clustering methods (k-means, dbscan etc). A level of accuracy and precision is achieved in scoring these relationships for relevance.
Most of the time, labels, particle names or IDs in the dataset have a connection to human language in the form of peer reviewed published scientific papers.
This is where we come in. VXV datasets are used to A) boost precision and accuracy (Sortino/Sharpe/P&L in the financial markets) B) detect new or hidden relationships based on all the data and intelligence found in language e.g. peer reviewed published scientific papers in theoretical physics.
The datasets and results can then be visualized e.g. (not all that exciting to the standard model of a human but exciting to a research in theoretical particle physics) https://vectorspace.ai/vis/relationship-network/cern.html
We’re currently working with CERN on acquiring more data so we can engage in generating metadata and triangulation for additional relationship networking.
We’ll describe how extracting intelligence from human language in the form of peer reviewed published scientific papers (and other data) related to epigenetics and *omics underpins all of Space Biosciences next.
CERN is more a Nobel Prize move.
We’re positioning our datasets to be cited in a highly regarded peer reviewed published scientific paper related to a breakthrough or novel discovery in theoretical particle physics, aka, our Universe.

What is the biggest challenge Vectorspace has faced in its time and what would you say is the main issue it is currently facing?
[12:54:38 PM]:Kasian Franks
Right after we started the crypto markets tanked and went into an extended downturn. We had to place our retail strategy related to ‘smart baskets’ on hold and roll out our enterprise/institutional strategy. This took time. We actually had people asking us what slowed us down. We also had to adapt, overcome and improvise in ways a traditional startup faces. Currently, the most difficult part of what we are working on is an issue faced by all of crypto, onboarding friction. No one wants to go through 40 steps to take build a position in crypto. We’re working on removing this friction during our onboarding process in unique ways that involve combinations of fiat and crypto.
Now we’re here set to roll with BTC hitting 20k.
Of course, the pandemic caused a couple issues too but we converted these into opportunities:

“S&P Global Agrees to Buy IHS Markit for About $44 Billion”
- how will this acquisition affect Vectorspace?
[1:01:51 PM]:Kasian Franks
S&P Global, representing the lions share of the traditional markets, has a multi-billion dollar appetite for data and datasets.
VXV is the crypto used to design, build, distribute and transact datasets for the traditional markets.
This means if you’re in the tradtional markets and you want an edge or an increase in precision, accuracy, P&L, Sortino or Sharpe ratio, your’re going to need VXV. As a traditional market player, if you’re making money with VXV datasets, you’ll also be interested in taking a long term position in VXV as a fund, prop desk or institution.
The main import here is that during our talks with S&P, they are the ones that mentioned they are looking to acquire companies like ours. This is the only data point we can disclose as anything beyond this would be classified as ‘material nonpublic information’.

Yes. Our datasets can be used to provide 20–30% boost in precision for any industry. We prioritize our customer targets based on quickest path to revenue. Yes, we can deal with trillions of data points. Google 10x larger than FB.
We like focusing on the big money first.

Thanks! First off, we have no direct competitors. We will eventually, but they’ll just be noise creators. Secondly, if you plan to do what we do you better come with decades of experience and wisdom along with a very deep domain expertise in whatever vertical or industry you target. Additionally, its all about how you construct vectors, their attributes along with how your algos calculate similarity between vectors.

Incredible, i was strapped in for 3 hours so interesting also id like to ask if i was to become an avid user of VXV what commitments can the team and developers make to users to ensure the greatest experience. Alot of us while investing, like to see the ability for projects to be used in wider society as a whole, how can you guys ensure that VXV as a whole has the correct facilities and developers to give best experience.

If a future competitor is worth their salt, they’ll have to have a deep domain expertise in biosciences or the traditional financial markets and crypto markets along with the ability to innovate on the dataset side with the ultimate litmus being the bottom line profit. This is why we like operating in the financial markets first as it’s the only place where you live and die by the efficacy of your algos and datasets.

CloudQuant is preparing a retail product that will suit your needs on the stock or crypto side when it comes to trading thematic baskets based on global events or topics. We’re looking at Q1 21 for this.
